Exhibition Theme Ideas

APOCALYPTIC

For the Apocalyptic theme the environment would be based on an end of the world theme depicted in the image above, by including items such as broken vehicles, rocks and rubble and crime scene tape amongst other pre-war items.

The overal sense of the environment will exhibit the work on boards mounted to the walls among the items creating the scenes. The surroundings of the work would be supported by the clothing worn by the hosts and the fact that refreshments could be serve in old jars instead of glasses.

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The Behind Closed Doors theme is based on the concept of the exhibited work being concealed behind doors until the viewer opens the door to choose what they want to see. Whats behind the doors could be summed up maybe by a short description on the front of the door or even a recorded blurb, activated by a doorbell next to the door.

The environment itself is modelled on a series of linear doors which act as a form of control, the doors could be locked with certain keys provided or even have false doors to ellude and entertain viewers.

Initial ideas

Firstly we were split into small groups of 4-5 and asked to generate ideas as to the theme of the exhibit where we would display our work.
My group consisted of Savva, Craig, Theresa and Elaine. Between us we had a range of views, different levels of skills with software and many ideas to integrate together.

Themes

"Behind Closed Doors" - Various sized doors, some on floor, some have nothing behind them
"Anti-Gallery" - No White walls, work not straight
"APOCALYPTIC" - A destroyed environment.

'Apocalyptic'

The Apocalyptic theme was instantly popular within our group, so we decided to research this idea further, and I think we have come up with some very powerful and unique ideas. For example:

• Graffiti on walls
• A Burnt out car! (with Police tape around it to prevent the public from touching it)
  
• Hazard tape around each individual exhibition
• A bent street lamp (to light the room)
• A burning skyline (painted/printed onto material then stuck on the wall)
• Using recycled objects to save money (serving drinks from a Jerry Can, using coffee jars as cups) - cheap and effective
• Victim's chalk outline on the floor (adds to the scene and easy to clean off)

• 

'Behind closed doors'

This theme was to be used as our secondary idea, which involved inserting doors into the exhibition which would conceal and hide our work. This would force the viewer to interact with the exhibition to see the work. Ideas include:

• Door colour scene depending on work inside
• Door size depending on contained work
• Fake doors leading to other doors
• Surrounding decoration such as brickwork (print work, easy to create)
  
• Doors on the floor and walls to mix up theme (health & safety issues?)
• Make exhibiton look like a street (rows of doors)
